MERKI

Use

Browser extension (planned)

The planned MERKI browser extension: a side panel with readable approvals for keyhold transactions. Not released; what it will and will not do.

The extension is not released. Nothing on this site offers a download. This page describes the plan so you know what to expect, and what not to install if someone else offers it under our name.

What it will do

  • Keep the keyhold in the browser toolbar or the side panel while you use other sites.
  • Announce itself to sites through EIP-6963 and answer EIP-1193 requests for accounts and transactions.
  • Show every transaction for approval with the asking site, the complete target address, the amount and the signing key.
  • Ask twice for unfamiliar calls and for open-ended token allowances.

What it will refuse

Anything signed off chain: site logins, typed data, permit messages. A one-time key cannot safely sign arbitrary messages, so sites that require them will not work with the keyhold.

One signer per phrase

The extension and the web wallet keep separate journals. Use one of them for a phrase, never both, or two journals may each think a key is still unused.
